Today marks the start of the National Weather Service's Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
Each day has a different theme, and today's today focuses on general preparedness. As storm season approaches, the National Weather Service recommends everyone has multiple way to receive alerts when severe weather strikes the area. Tools like a NOAA Weather Radio can wake you up if thunderstorms or tornadoes come through in the middle of the night. You can also sign up for KGGF text alerts here and select your county and what alerts you'd like to be notified for. It's also important to identify where you would go in a tornado emergency. You may want to consider keeping a go-bag packed with a change of clothes and shoes or boots if you plan to use a community shelter. If you have a shelter at home, make sure it's stocked with a few essentials to keep you comfortable, including a light source and a battery-powered radio.
