A fire at a building in downtown Independence leaves a damaged structure.
Independence Fire crews were called to the 200 block of north 8th street yesterday afternoon and found a three-story structure engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. Assisting Independence Fire-EMS was Dearing rural Fire as well as rural fire departments from Cherryvale and Independence.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
