Hikers around the area took to the trails to start 2024.
In Elk City, free First Day Hike shirts were given out on a first-come basis. Coffee and hot chocolate were also provided by Friends of Elk City State Park as hikers and bikers explored the parks many trails.
At Fall River State Park, around 50 hikers and three dogs hiked the 2.1 mile Catclaw Trail. Around the state of Kansas, there were 33 First Day hikes offered this year. This is the 13th year the hikes have been offered in the state.
