Be Careful Of Empty Boxes After the Holidays

Cherokee County law enforcement officials caution residents about the risk of package deliveries and empty boxes, even after the holiday season.

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves says the presence of empty boxes or packaging materials outside homes could accidentally make homes more susceptible to theft.

Groves advises residents to break down packing materials and boxes before placing them in your trash can, which will reduce their visibility. He also says it's a good idea to take pictures of valuable items, including jewelry and firearms.

Groves also reminds residents to monitor their deliveries. Track packages and retrieve theme quickly after delivery to minimize opportunities for theft.

Groves says these guidelines are a general guideline for safeguarding deliveries and valuables all year long.
