Quick Thinking Saves House From Being a Total Loss

Quick thinking by a homeowner saves a house from being a total loss in a fire.

Just before 5:00 yesterday afternoon, multiple fire departments responded to a fire reported at 1601 North Dreher Street in Weir. Crews discovered flames and heavy smoke through the roof on the north side of the single story home.

Authorities believe the fire started in the utility room, then spread to the kitchen and garage.

After Weir and Cherokee Township departments arrived, mutual aid from Scammon, Columbus, West Mineral and Galena was received. The fire was contained in about 30 minutes; no injuries were reported.

Fire officials say quick thinking by the homeowner kept the fire from spreading further, since the owner discovered the fire in a closed room, and shut the door again, keeping damage to a minimum.
