After nearly 270,000 votes have been cast a new Kansas license plate is announced. The winning plate has a picture of the top of the capitol in the lower left corner and has "to the stars" written at the bottom.

 Governor Laura Kelly says she wants to recognize the beautiful designs on social media that, unfortunately, couldn't be used. She says Kansans will notice that license plates across the country are moving to simpler designs, which is because of law enforcement and license plate reader requirements. This is the first time the state has allowed public input on the standard tag.

Governor Kelly says she has asked the Department of Revenue to review their process for selecting license plate designs moving forward so they can get public input from the very start.
