The city of Independence receives a federal transportation grant to reduce injury accidents.

 The SS4A Project looks to implement safety improvements along its higher-injury roadways, including several low-cost, high-impact countermeasures to reduce and eventually eliminate injury crashes. The project will include pedestrian enhancements, ADA accessibility improvements, school zone improvements, speed management, and roadway treatment.

 Total funding for the project from the U.S. Transportation Department will total over $1.2 million dollars.
