Proposed Water Level Changes At OK Dam Raise Concerns From Residents

Residents of northeastern Oklahoma are asking federal regulators for more local input before

re-licensing a hydroelectric dam at Grand Lake.

The Grand River Dam Authority that regulates electricity generation on the 84 year old Pensacola Dam located on Grand Lake, west of Adair, is currently undergoing a license renewal process with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or FERC (ferk). As a part of that process, G-R-D-A wants to increase the maximum reservoir level by one foot. Local residents and advocacy groups say this increase will make flooding worse in communities upstream from the dam, including those that border the Tar Creek Superfund site.

FERC is expected to formally begin its review of G-R-D-A's application in the coming months.
