Deer Causes Two Vehicle Crash in Cherokee County

A deer is the cause of a weekend car accident near Baxter Springs.

The crash occurred around 5:15pm yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, as 60 year old Dana Cook of Broken Arrow was traveling southbound on US 69 about 4 miles north of US 166 when she struck a deer crossing the road. The impact caused the deer to move into oncoming traffic where it was struck again by a 2022 Kia Soul driven by 60 year old Allen Bruce of Oswego. Cook sustained minor injuries in the accident and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin for treatment. No one else was injured in the crash.
