Deer can pose a crash danger for motorists at any time of year in Kansas.
This time of year, however, is the most dangerous time of year for deer collisions. Shawn Steward of AAA Kansas, says deer can be unpredictable, so even the best drivers are at risk.
37% of all single vehicle crashes in Kansas involve a collision with a deer. The Kansas Department of Transportation reports that 575 people were injured in deer collisions in 2022 and six of those were fatal. The Kansas highway Patrol reminds drivers to be especially aware when driving at dawn and dusk when deer are most active.
