USD 446 School Board Candidates Speak at Candidate Forum

Candidates for the USD 446 School Board faced voters for the first time on Wednesday night.

Four of the eight candidates running for open positions on the Independence school board took questions at the Candidate Forum at the Civic Center this week. One of the questions they were asked was to state what they see as the most important issues facing the school district and to share their ideas to address those issues. Candidate Marty Reichenberger says the key is to continue to provide students with a world-class education.

Candidate Scott Hines says that staff retention is important, but that there are other issues to consider as well.

Candidate Charles Barker Sr says he thinks truancy and absenteeism are major issues, but he also adds that when looking for solutions, it's important to consider the positives as well as the negatives.

Candidate Jennifer Rutledge says the most important issues are staff retention and recruiting.

These four will be joined on the ballot for the USD 446 School Board by candidates Amanda Fredrickson, Joseph Housel, Andy O'Brien, and Melissa Small on election day, November 7th
