Test Scores Improving District Wide in Caney

Test scores are up across the board in the Caney USD 436 School District.

In last night's report to the Caney School Board, High School Principal Jimmy Littleford reported that test scores in all middle and high school grade levels were higher than in his previous seven years with the district, especially in the math and reading levels. Previous year test scores have been at or near national levels, but this year has seen test scores from four to six points above national levels.

Superintendent Blake Vargas credits teachers and staff for the increase in test numbers, but he also credits the students for taking each day seriously when it comes to academics. Vargas says their focus is to help every student, but especially those whose need the extra help.

In other business, Vargas reports that two electric buses are being run through the thirty day “real world” testing process and should be delivered to Caney and added to the fleet in the next thirty days or so. The board also heard building and maintenance reports from across the district.
