Fredonia City Commission Addresses Sidewalk Repair and ADA Compliance

Saving the city money versus being in compliance with federal law was the issue before the Fredonia City Commission last night.

Up for discussion was the total cost to repair sidewalks and curbing in the city and whether or not the repairs needed to be in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act or A-D-A. City Attorney John Chenowith says more could be done with more money.

However, a Fredonia citizen spoke out about the need for ADA accessible sidewalks.

Though no vote was taken, the commission did agree that it was more important to make sidewalks accessible for all citizens.

In other business, the commission decided to consider a new ordinance that would extend the grace period for utility payments to the city when the due dates fall on weekends or holidays.
