Southwest Power Pool Declares Advisory; Public Action Not Needed

The regional power transmission organization for the central U.S. is declaring a power grid advisory.

The Southwest Power Pool serves the central U.S. and coordinates generation and power grid operations for the central U.S. including the four-state region. The Conservative Operations Advisory will be in effect today from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. The advisory does not require the public to conserve energy. The advisory is being declared due to continued high power load forecasts due to extreme heat and low wind forecasts. This advisory is mainly to inform power plant operators that greater commitment of their resources may be required. According to Coffeyville Municipal Light and Power Electric Generation Superintendent Tony Lawson, both of Coffeyville's power plants have been online since Saturday to help with the extra load.
