Wheat production for Oklahoma is forecast at 49.5 million bushels, down 28 percent from last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Average yield in Kansas is forecast at 29 bushels per acre, down 8 bushels from last year. Yield per acre in Oklahoma is expected to average 23.0 bushels, down 5.0 bushels from the previous year. K-State Research and Extension Wildcat District Crop Agent James Coover says winter wheat in southeast Kansas has benefited from periodic rainfall.

In last week's USDA Crop Progress Report, Kansas led the state in winter wheat joined at 94% and winter wheat headed at 72%.
