Critical Fire Weather Conditions Today

Today will be a busy weather day with a chance for severe weather for the four states and a much greater risk of fire weather conditions.  A cold front will push into the area this morning and will exit northwest Arkansas by early afternoon.  The greatest severe chances will be to our east in central Arkansas and Missouri.  Very strong west-southwest winds and low afternoon humidity will set the stage for critical fire weather conditions today.  Southeast Kansas is under a wind advisory right now, and that will be upgraded to a high wind warning at 1 p.m.  A red flag warning will start at 11 a.m. and go until 9 p.m.  In Oklahoma, the red flag warning starts at noon and remains in effect until 8 p.m.  For southwest Missouri, the red flag warning starts at 2 p.m. and is in effect until 10 p.m.  The National Weather Service warns that wind speeds will increase throughout the afternoon, which will make fire control efforts increasingly difficult.
