Information Leads To Baxter Springs Arrest

New information leads to the capture of a Cherokee County fugitive.

Just after 3:00 yesterday afternoon, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputies obtained information that 46-year-old James Eric Paul Thompson was hiding in a rural Baxter  Springs  home.

Thompson pled guilty in May of last year in Cherokee County District Court to Felony Criminal Threat. Thompson, who was not in custody at the time of the hearing, was ordered to surrender himself to the Cherokee County Jail in August, then be transferred to the Kansas Department of Corrections and serve a 16 month sentence. An arrest warrant was sought after Thompson failed to turn himself in.

When Thompson was detected, he refused to comply. A Sheriff's  K9 was brought in to assist in the apprehension.

Thompson remains in the Cherokee County Jail, on a no bond hold.

Online records with the Kansas Department of Corrections sow Thompson was previously incarcerated in the Kansas Prison System after being convicted in Cherokee County on charges of Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Burglary and Theft.
