With more questions than answers surrounding the firing of former Fire Chief Kenny Ward, International Association of Firefighters Local 265 President Josh Mecom says they're just wanting answers.
Mecom, along with other firefighters from Coffeyville and surrounding communities, and concerned residents held a peaceful protest in front of City Hall yesterday, before the city commission meeting. The union believes the former chief was fired for sticking up for them, and they believe residents should know what's going on.
Mecom says some firefighters feel they aren't getting support from City Hall, and the need for equipment isn't being met.
There's no word as of yet on the grievance filed by the union. Mecom says he and the union will continue to seek answers from city leaders until an amicable solution is reached.
