KBI Arrests Six On Drug Related Charges

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, along with several Sheriff’s Offices, arrested six individuals yesterday in Miami and Linn counties for the distribution of meth and other charges.

The investigation began in December of 2022 when the Osawatomie Police Department developed information about area drug sales. Yesterday morning, KBI agents and investigators executed search warrants and arrest warrants at a residence in rural Osawatomie, and at two residences in La Cygne. During the searches, law enforcement located meth and over $12,000 in cash. During the joint investigation, over 1.5 pounds of meth was seized, some of which are believed to contain fentanyl.

Six subjects were arrested, including 49-year-old Charles Eslick Jr., of Osawatomie. Eslick was arrested for the distribution of a controlled substance, conspiracy, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and distribution or possession of a controlled substance using a communication facility. 55-year old Deanne Burkhart, and 50-year-old Julia Spears, both of Osawatomie, were arrested for distribution of a controlled substance, conspiracy, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 60-year-old Bernie Stuteville, of La Cygne, was arrested for the distribution of a controlled substance, conspiracy, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 58-year-old Danny Harper, of Osawatomie, was arrested for distribution of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and 45-year-old Cindy Ballou, of Osawatomie, was arrested during the search warrant for having outstanding warrants for driving while suspended with no proof of insurance.

All subjects were booked into the Miami County Jail, with formal charges pending. The investigation is ongoing.
