Senate Bill 13 Works to Stop Exclusive Broadcast Rights

A bill to stop exclusive broadcast agreements for high school post-season play is working its way through the Kansas House. Senate Bill 13 would put an end to the exclusive agreement that KSHSAA has with the NFHS Network. Kansas Association of Broadcasters Board Member and KGGF General Manager John Leonard says it's already made its way through the Senate.

The NFHS Network, which most recently streamed the state basketball tournaments, charges a fee to view their streams and are the only way to watch these games. Leonard says this bill doesn't just affect local broadcasters.

Leonard joined other members of the KAB, including President Allison Mazzei and Chairman Justin Fluke, in speaking with members of the Legislature in support of this bill. A link to Senate Bill 13 can be seen here.
