Public Comments Expected at Commission Meeting Tonight

The Coffeyville City Commission meeting tonight is expected to draw public comments, but not because of anything on the agenda.

Several groups on Facebook including one called Support Fire Chief Ward are calling for people to attend tonight's meeting and support the former fire chief, who they say was wrongly terminated. While the commission does not hear matters involving city personnel, firefighters and supporters are hoping to make a statement after the firefighter union's vote of no confidence in City Manager Mark Hall.  Ward says Hall did not want to pay firefighters the extra money that comes from the state when they respond to hazmat calls, which led to the complaint filed by the union and Wards eventual termination. Hall says as far as the city is concerned, they've always followed the state agreement.

The meeting starts tonight at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall and is open to the public.
