Independence to Amend Labette Health Agreement

The City of Independence has voted to amend an Incentive Grant Agreement with Labette Health.

The original terms of the agreement was ratified back in March of 2021. A key piece of the partnership was Labette Health deciding to define residency by the City's public utility service area rather than the City Limits, believing for it to be more expansive.

Labette Health President and CEO Brian Williams says that this current method makes it difficult to report results accurately, and is not as expansive as they had hoped.

Other items of business at the Independence City Commission meeting were the donation of surplus beds from Mercy Hospital to a Community Crisis team, the rescinding of condemnation at both 217 N 12th, and 609 W Laurel, and an executive session with an attorney that represents the city regarding matters that would be deemed privileged in an attorney-client relationship.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 23rd at 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall of the Civic Center.
