Multiple fire departments go through a training course thanks to a grant.
This past weekend through a Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Grant, a Propane IQ class was brought in for area fire departments. Around 20 students participated in the two-day class that consisted of classroom and hands-on training. The class focused on the physical and chemical properties of propane and how to mitigate the risk of a leaking propane tank through flaring. The Coffeyville Fire Department is the Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team for a 12-county region of Southeast Kansas.
Thompson Brothers and Bartlett Coop donated the propane and propane tanks that were used in the class. Montgomery County Emergency Management assisted in the training.
