Rumbles of thunder yesterday afternoon in Coffeyville were a good reminder that Severe Weather Preparedness Week continues.

Today's theme is lightning safety, and according to the National Weather Service, lightning strikes the U.S. 25 million times each year, and kills 47 people on average. Many of these deaths occur outdoors and are preventable. The best precaution against lightning is to go indoors whenever you hear thunder.
