LaTurner Co-Sponsors Parents Bill of Rights Act

Congressman Jake LaTurner cosponsors legislation to give legal protections to parents.

H.R.5, also known as the Parents Bill of Rights Act, was introduced by LaTurner and Congresswoman Julia Letlow. This legislation puts in place concrete legal protections they say will ensure parents have a seat at the table when it comes to their child’s education.

The Parents Bill of Rights Act is built on five principles, ensuring that parents have the right to know what their children are being taught, having the right to be heard, having the right to see the school budget and spending, having the right to protect their child’s privacy, and having the right to keep their children safe.

LaTurner says examples were given during the COVID-19 pandemic of concerned parents in school districts across the country being kicked out of school board meetings and even labeled as domestic terrorists by the federal government. LaTurner says this legislation guarantees parents will always have a seat at the table.
