Joplin Police Chief is retiring.
Chief Sloan Rowland announced his retirement earlier today. Roland has spent 35 years in various public safety positions, and twenty years in the Joplin community. Roland's law enforcement career began in 1987 in Galena. He also served with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, before joining the Joplin Police Department in 2003. He became Assistant Chief in 2016; and eventually Police Chief in 2019.
Roland's retirement takes effect June 1st. Assistant Chief Brian Lewis will assume the interim Police Chief position until a permanent replacement is found.
