USD 446 Superintendent to Retire

A leader in both the USD 446 school system and the Independence community has announced his intention to retire.

USD 446 Superintendent Rusty Arnold spoke to the Board of Education this morning and the Board accepted his retirement notice. Arnold has served as the District Superintendent since July of 2015.

Arnold accomplished numerous projects in his time with the district, including finishing the stadium project, building a transportation facility, renovating the historic Riley school, establishing the first early learning center ever in the district, and establishing an alternative learning environment in BRIDGES academy.

The USD Board of Education announced that Assistant Superintendent Jason McAfee has been appointed to serve as the interim. The board commends and thanks Arnold for his service and dedication to the kids and the education in the USD 446 community.
