A number of Kansas schools were the victims of a SWATing hoax.
At least 17 law enforcement jurisdictions received fake calls reporting shootings. These calls were received yesterday between 7:50am and 9:50am. As soon as the first incidents occurred, the federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, the Safe and Secure Schools Unit of the Kansas State Department of Education and school officials across Kansas, began collaborating to safeguard students.
The KBI says these calls are very serious crimes that put innocent people at risk and have potentially dangerous consequences. They are working with their partners in an attempt to identify those responsible. While yesterday’s threats were not credible, the KBI commends Kansas law enforcement on their response to the multiple incidents that occurred.
