Former ICC President Arrested

The former president of Independence Community College was arrested Friday afternoon for nine counts of alleged business or service thefts.

Independence Police Chief Jerry Harrison says the investigation showed theft of property or business services of less than $1,500 from three separate establishments within a 72-hour period. Harrison says the acts in question happened between December 16, 2022, and January 27, 2023.

Formal charges have not been filed as of yet by Montgomery County Attorney Melissa Johnson.  IPD responded to the 100 block of South Peter Pan Road late Friday afternoon to make a report on the discovery of those nine thefts.  54-year-old Daniel Barwick was booked into the Montgomery County Department of Corrections Friday and held on a $1,500 bond.

Barwick served as ICC president from 2011 to 2019. He was recently hired to run the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s School of Dentistry's philanthropic giving and foundation division. He also has served as the director of giving at Indiana State University.
