A student from Ottawa is being recognized as a regional essay contest winner.
The League of Kansas Municipalities and Kansas Association of Counties co-hosted Local Government Day this week. More than 200 city and county government officials met in Topeka for the event. Students from around the state were recognized as regional winners for the annual “My City, My Home” essay contest. Representing the southeast region of the state, Ottawa Middle School Student Brody Rockers was one of five regional award winners in addition to the overall winner, who was Jocelyn Leanna of Phillipsburg. Each year, the League hosts the competition for seventh-grade students, asking them to explain why their city is “home” and what they like about their community. Hundreds of students participated in the contest.
