More information has been gathered concerning an attempted carjacking in Galena.
The attempt took place around 7:00 a.m. yesterday morning at Casey's at 7th and Main. Cherokee County officials say the car owner saw a man getting into her vehicle. The woman was able to pull him out of her vehicle. The man then fled on foot.
The Galena Police Department says several calls also came in around the same time with complaints of additional carjacking attempts. An abandoned vehicle was also located, which turned out to be stolen from Neosho.
Law enforcement started canvassing neighborhoods around the stolen vehicle's location, and soon after, suspect Chris Hood was located. He was found just over the state line in Missouri, near the power plant in Asbury.
The Galena School District was put into a brief lockdown because the stolen vehicle allegedly had weapons inside. Charges against Hood are pending.
