Independence Police Department Approved for New Scanner System

A more consistent and efficient method of communication is coming to the Independence Police Department.

Police Chief Jerry Harrison was approved to convert the police scanner system to UHF-Digital, following a presentation at tonight's city commission meeting. Harrison says that their current system, VHF, is not adequate and creates danger for officers.

Harrison also suggests that Independence put in place a Public Safety Answering Point Boundary Line, in the event of 911 services. This would ensure that 911 Ambulance Call Transfers from one PSAP to another are reduced.

Additional items of discussion at the Independence City Commission meeting are a spot open on the Planning Commission, with an application deadline of February 3rd.

Also, the commissioners set a public hearing for March 23 to consider the condemnation of 1000 W Chestnut as dangerous and unsafe. The residence was significantly damaged in a structure fire on January 20th.
