The Nowata County Sheriff's Office is alerting citizens to a new scam.

A man is calling Nowata County citizens claiming to be a deputy named Rick Harper. According to the sheriff's office, there is no one employed or affiliated with them by that name. The number the scammer is calling from is (405)230-4461, but he could also be spoofing the sheriff's office number. The purpose of the scam is to get personal information in order to get money from the victim. The scammer states he has a file on the victim and has warrants.
