Special Meeting in South Coffeyville on Gym Bond Today

The South Coffeyville Board of Education is holding a special meeting today regarding a potential new gym for the district.

The board will gather information and work to get a bond issue on the ballot for voters in February. If passed, the one million dollar project would raise the mill levy from 75 mills to around 90 mills, which would result in a $15.68 tax increase on every $1,000 of taxes, according to Superintendent Daryl Pruter. If the bond issue goes forward, the gym would be paid off within 10 years. Currently, the school shares one gym between K through 12th grade, which delays practices late into the evening and board members say it is inadequate to host area tournaments. The special meeting starts at 4 p.m. this afternoon in the school cafeteria.
