A lifetime of service is being remembered as the community of Dearing and the surrounding area mourns the loss of Dearing Rural Fire Department Chief Marty Smith.

 

 Smith passed away Monday at the age of 64, after serving the community for over 49 years.  Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Rick Whitson says Smith is the definition of care and concern for his community.

 

Whitson says Smith's volunteer department was the busiest in Montgomery County, with the department running more than one hundred calls annually over the next busiest department. He says Smith never lost his drive to help people.

 

 Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. At Dearing Christian Church.
