South Coffeyville School Board Looks to Pass Bond for Gym

The South Coffeyville Board of Education is taking the next step on a bond issue for a second gym. Superintendent Daryl Pruter says the district can spend a maximum of one million dollars on the gym, which will be funded by a mill rate increase if passed by voters. South Coffeyville currently has one of the lowest mill levies in the area at 75 mills, compared with Nowata at 94.5 mills and Oklahoma Union at 92. Pruter says the gym project would put South Coffeyville at a similar level to other districts.

If passed, the bond issue would result in increased costs for taxpayers. Pruter says this is not something to be taken lightly.

If passed, the bond would be paid off in 10 years and would provide additional capacity for South Coffeyville Schools, which currently share one gym between all grades. A special meeting on the bond will be held on Monday, January 23rd at 4 p.m. in the school cafeteria to discuss the next steps on the proposed project and get the issue on the ballot for voters in February.
