Cherryvale Man Barricades Himself Inside Building

A Cherryvale Man is in custody after barricading himself a building. Late last week, Montgomery County Detectives along with agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation were attempting to serve a felony rape of a minor and criminal threat warrant on Niklas Nelson. Upon arrival, agents and detectives contacted Nelson’s father and gathered intel that Nelson was hiding inside the large metal shop on the property and might had a handgun in his possession. Officers surrounded the shop and began attempting to call Nelson out using a PA system.

Detectives then obtained a search warrant for the property. The Montgomery County Emergency Response Team was activated and responded to the scene. KBI responded with their Armored Rescue Vehicle for the SERT team to use. Kansas Highway Patrol responded with their helicopter to assist in case Nelson fled on foot. With the use of less lethal chemicals and other less lethal tools, the SERT team was able to take Nelson into custody.

Nelson was transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections where he was booked on the arrest warrant for rape, interference with law enforcement, and possession of methamphetamine.
