An Independence man is arrested after police respond to a hostage situation.

Just before 3:00am, officers responded to a 911 hang-up in the 200 block of West Magnolia. Officers spoke with a female who was with one adult male and one juvenile male. Officers had difficulty communicating and called a translation service as the two males went back inside the home. The adult male, the female victim's boyfriend, had cut her face and stabbed her in the abdomen and leg. Officers did not think the knife wounds appeared to be serious.

Officers could not get the suspect to come out and the suspect would not allow the juvenile male to leave. Police blocked off the area and requested the Kansas Highway Patrol Special Response Team. KHP negotiators were able to get the suspect to release the hostage and surrender peacefully just before 9:00am. 31-year-old Antonio Lopez Samayoa is being held on charges of aggravated domestic battery, criminal threat and kidnapping.
