Fredonia Solar Farm Moves Forward, New Mayor Sworn In

The project to build a solar farm in Fredonia is officially underway.

City Commissioners cleared the last hurdle of the project by approving an ordinance authorizing the city to enter into a lease purchase transaction, which will be used to pay the costs of financing the acquisition and construction of the farm, which will supply two megawatts of power to the city under ideal conditions.

City Administrator Wesley Young says he thinks the farm will make a positive impact on the city.

If all goes according to plan, the $4.2 million project will be up and running by June.

Since last night's meeting was the first of the year, new Mayor Allen Miller was sworn in by outgoing Mayor Bob McKenney.

In other business, the commission heard year-end updates from city departments, approved employee heath insurance and accepted electric department bids.
