Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Unregistered Violent Offender

A traffic stop leads to the arrest of an unregistered violent offender.

Last night at around 11:41pm, a Parsons Police Officer conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation. The driver, 24-year-old Osric Maleke-Rashaad Edwards was driving with a suspended and expired driver's license. Edwards was also found to be in violation of his Kansas Violent Offender Registration requirements.

Edwards was convicted in November 2018 for criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling and is required to register as a violent offender for 15 years. He was also convicted of aggravated battery in March 2017 for breaking an elderly man's facial bone. Edwards was discharged from the Kansas Department of Corrections in January 2021. Edwards is being held on no bond and charges are being requested through the Labette County Attorney's Office for three counts of violation of offender registration, driving while suspended and defective vehicle equipment
