On January 9th, 2023 a new attorney general for the State of Kansas will take office. Current AG Derek Schmidt, who served the second-longest tenure in the state's history, says it has been a good run.
Schmidt says they have focused on their capacity to investigate and prosecute two groups of crimes in particular. Schmidt says he will leave the attorney general's office for his successor better than he found it and will always remain grateful for having served. Kris Kobach will take over as attorney general in January.
