Decision on Fredonia Solar Farm Coming This Month

A decision on the Fredonia solar farm project should be coming on December 21st.  In a special meeting yesterday afternoon, the Fredonia City Commission voted to approve Mitch Walter with the Gilmore Bell financial law firm to draw up a initial financial proposal subject to approval on the 21st. This process will solicit actual bids from companies to get hard costs on the project instead of the estimates the commission has been using.

If the project comes in at $4.4 million or less, commissioners believe it is worth moving forward with. That number does not include the extra cost of interest and other fees associated with the project, which would make the total project cost around $5.2 million.  The solar farm will handle some of the city's peak energy load and the hope is to save money on utility bills and give the city some its own power generation ability.
