National Finals Rodeo 7th Round Results of Local Kansans

The 7th round of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas is in the books.

 

 

Coffeyville hometown cowboy Jake Long and his partner Clay Smith tied for 5th place in the 7th round yesterday in Team Roping. The pair goes into the 8th round tonight still 14th in the average with 4 head. The earnings moved Long up to 5th in the World with slightly more than $173,000 in earnings. He is only about $2000 ahead of 6th place Levi Lord, but $17,000 less than 4th place local heeler Buddy Hawkins.

 

Buddy Hawkins who grew up just north of Sedan and now lives in Stevensville, TX.  He ended up the 7th round in a tie for third place with a time of 4.4 seconds winning $14,690 in the Team roping event. That puts Hawkins and his partner Andrew Ward in 4 place in the average on 5 head. Buddy dropped from 3rd to 4rd in the world standings with just over $190,000 earned, but Hawkins announced last week that he had surpassed the one million dollar mark in lifetime earnings.

 

Bareback bronc rider Jessie Pope who is from Waverly, continued his domination of this year’s NFR. Pope rode Big Stone Rodeo Inc.’s Mayhem to an 89-point ride for first place last night netting him $28,914 for his efforts. He increased his lead in the average to 606 points on all 7 head, 11 and a half points higher than 2nd place Kaycee Field. That pushes his earnings in the World Standings even higher to almost $291,000.
