Winter Wheat in Southeast Kansas Above State Average

 

Southeast Kansas leads the state in percentage of winter wheat emerged.

 

The latest numbers from the United States Department of Agriculture show southeast Kansas is tied with central Kansas at 90%.  K-State Research and Extension Wildcat District Crop Production Agent James Coover says recent rains have helped crops in southeast Kansas.

 

Total percentage of wheat emerged in Kansas is 87%, which is behind 95% emerged this time last year, and also behind the five-year average of 92%.  Winter wheat condition across the state is rated at 20% very poor, 23% poor, 36% fair, 19% good and 2% excellent.
