Staffing Shortages Could Affect Kansas Highways

Staffing shortages could affect how the Kansas Department of Transportation keeps the highways clear. According to Transportation Secretary Julie Lorenz, staffing is at about 76 percent with snowplow operators; Operators normally work twelve-hour shifts, and Lorenz says that could cause delays in plowing. Lorenz says highways will be cleared as soon as possible, with pretreating happening whenever possible. Motorists can check on current road conditions by checking; the app and website are updated 24/7 for highway conditions, short-term closures, and general traffic alerts. KDOT is also looking for those with and without CDLs who are looking for work. Go to for more information.
