KDWP Clarifies Plan For Grant Monies

KGGF News reported yesterday regarding the $4.3 million dollar grant to be dedicated to the acquisition of wetland habitat for conservation going to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. KGGF News contacted  KDWP to receive clarification as to how they plan to spend the federal money.

According to Chief of Public Affairs & Engagement Officer, Nadia Marji, KDWP has no intention of exercising eminent domain, funds will be used to manage and enhance already-designated sites, the majority of which would be conserved in the form of easements, and if KDWP should identify a willing seller it’s important to note the sale of any land greater than 160 acres must be approved by the Kansas legislature, and KDWP would be required to pay current appraised or fair market value for any property purchased.
