Kansas Senator Explains Ballot Question

Two questions to amend the Kansas constitution will be on the ballot in November. One of the questions provides the legislature with oversight of state executive branch agencies by providing the legislature the authority to establish procedures to revoke or suspend rules and regulations.

Kansas State Senator and Senate Judiciary Chair Kellie Warren says this amendment addresses the growing bureaucracy which she calls a fourth branch of government.

Warren says the question is not designed to be confusing and has a simple goal.  In addition, warren says a “no” vote would keep the status quo, while a “yes” vote would return more power to Kansans.

The other question on the November ballot requires the election of sheriffs in counties that have the office and provides that sheriffs may be recalled from office. The last time the Kansas constitution was amended was in 2019.
