Contention at Congressional Forum in Coffeyville

A capacity crowd turned out in Coffeyville Thursday night as the two candidates for the 2nd Congressional District in Kansas appeared at a forum.  Incumbent Republican Jake LaTurner faced off with the Democratic challenger, Patrick Schmidt at the Windsor Events Center in the forum sponsored by the Coffeyville Chamber of Commerce and KGGF.

Congressman LaTurner said we face serious problems in Kansas and the nation, including crime, border control and inflation.

In his opening statement Schmidt said he is committed to strengthening rural healthcare, child care and expanding broadband internet.

The differences between the two candidates coupled with a partisan crowd from other southeast Kansas counties spurred on some contention during the forum.

Thursday’s forum was less than a month away from November’s general election.
