City of Independence To Receive Grant For Almost $1 Million

 

Independence to receive a grant from KDOT’s Transportation Alternatives program. The funds will go toward connecting the existing sidewalks along West Main Street and Laurel Street To Peter Pan Road and Labette Health’s Independence Healthcare Center. The grant will cover about 73% or approximately $980,224 of the 1.34 million dollar project. City Engineer John Garris said that the city is thrilled with the support from KDOT to support the City's infrastructure needs. Neodesha also was awarded grant money from KDOT for its Safe Routes to School project; Parsons for the Tolen Creek Trail; and Frontenac for sidewalk improvements.
