Parsons Chief Responds to Negative Comments on Social Media

Parsons Police Chief responds to negative comments made on social media.

Chief Robert Spinks says that unlike on TV they can’t process DNA in a day or fingerprints in an hour. That type of technology is a falsehood. Chief Spinks says that some crimes with DNA will never get processed per the KBI crime lab policies. They can’t control what the KBI decides to process any more than they can control the outcome of a criminal case that is prosecuted.  Spinks's response comes after comments were made about a vandalism case that is being investigated by the department.

Earlier this month four vehicles were damaged in Parsons. The crimes occurred in the 1300 block of S 26th Street and 1100 block of N 26th Street and in the 3600 block of N 16th  Street.  The vandalism included the slashing of tires, cutting of upholstery and damaging of paint. Officers were able to collect information from the victims and blood was collected from one area. Video footage was made available, but no identities were discovered. The video and blood evidence was sent to the KBI Crime Lab for analysis.  There is currently a significant backlog of cases at the state level, so no time can be given as to when the evidence will be processed.
